Google is expanding Gemini’s upgraded writing tools in Google Docs to 11 additional languages, bringing full-draft creation, whole-document editing, writing-style matching and format matching to more Workspace users.
The Scheduled Release rollout begins on August 1, 2026, following an earlier Rapid Release rollout that started on July 15. Google says feature visibility can take up to 15 days, which means some eligible Workspace users may not see the expanded language support immediately.
The update does not mark the first launch of Gemini’s writing tools in Docs. Google introduced the redesigned experience on March 10, then widened access across more Workspace subscriptions in April. The fresh development is the language expansion and the wider availability window now reaching Scheduled Release domains.
More Languages Added
The newly supported languages are Mandarin, Dutch, Malay, Hebrew, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Indonesian, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian.
These join the existing support for English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, French, Korean, German and Italian, bringing the listed total to 19 languages.
The expansion applies across Google’s main Gemini writing features in Docs: Help me create, Help me write, Match writing style and Match doc format. That means users in the newly supported languages can ask Gemini to draft formatted documents, rewrite sections, adjust tone and follow the structure of a reference document, depending on account eligibility and rollout status.
Full Drafts From Workspace Context
The central feature is Help me create, which can generate a complete first draft from a prompt. Unlike a simple text generator, it can produce formatted output with headings, sections, tables and structure.
When relevant permissions and Workspace settings are enabled, Gemini can also draw context from Google Drive, Gmail, Chat and the web. For example, a user could ask it to create a project brief using a meeting summary in Drive, instructions from Gmail and recent research from the web.
This makes the feature more useful for workplace writing because the draft can be based on existing company information rather than only a general prompt.
Whole-Document Editing
Help me write can edit selected passages or apply instructions across an entire document. Users can ask Gemini to make writing clearer, shorter, more professional or closer to a chosen tone.
The feature is available through the Gemini side panel and newer document controls. Google presents changes as suggestions, meaning collaborators do not see unfinished AI edits until the user accepts them.
That approval step matters for shared documents. It gives writers and editors a chance to review the output before it becomes part of the live file.
Matching Voice and Format
Match writing style is designed for documents with uneven tone. It studies the existing voice of a document and rewrites inconsistent passages to better fit the rest of the file.
The feature may be useful for teams where multiple contributors work on the same report, proposal, campaign plan or internal document. It can help smooth out sections that feel noticeably different from the surrounding text.
Still, users should treat it as a polishing tool rather than a perfect imitation engine. Independent testing has found that Gemini is better at maintaining a professional business tone than recreating a highly personal writing voice.
Match doc format works differently. Instead of focusing on tone, it follows the structure and visual style of a reference document. It can reproduce elements such as heading hierarchy, tables, fonts, colours and general layout patterns.
This is useful for recurring documents such as itineraries, briefs, reports, client proposals and internal templates.
Who Gets Access
The expanded features are available to selected paid Workspace and Google AI users. Eligible plans include Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning, AI Expanded Access, Google AI Pro for Education, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
Business Starter and ordinary free Google accounts are not included in the listed availability for this rollout.
Workspace administrators must enable Gemini for Workspace in Drive. End users also need smart features turned on. Activating Workspace Intelligence expands the sources Gemini can use for contextual drafting.
Docs Keeps Adding AI Features
The language expansion is part of a larger push to turn Google Docs into a more active AI writing environment. Google also announced newer Gemini upgrades in late July, including AI-generated images, diagrams and infographics inside Docs, as well as AI-powered comment workflows.
Those comment tools can summarize feedback threads, identify unresolved issues, draft replies and suggest document changes based on reviewer comments. They do not automatically publish replies or apply edits without user approval.
For writers, editors, agencies and business teams, the direction is clear. Google Docs is moving beyond basic drafting assistance toward full document production, editing, formatting, visual creation and review management.
The latest language expansion makes that shift available to more users globally, while the August 1 rollout gives Workspace teams a current reason to check whether the upgraded Gemini tools are now active in their accounts.
